Forest Fire Fighting Terms Handbook

The F.I.R.E. 4 - European Rapid Intervention Force - is a joint project of cooperation between Mediterranean countries facing similar risks. 
The initiative, promoted in March 2007 by France, Italy, Portugal and Spain, stemmed from the European Civil Protection Mechanism in order to ensure a more adequate protection of European citizens through the development of a rapid response to natural disasters.
In February 2008 the F.I.R.E. 4 Committee decided to include Greece among the project partners. For this reason the name was changed to F.I.R.E. 5.
This manual, a useful tool to build a common language among the actors dealing with forest fires, was designed and tested by F.I.R.E. 5 during S.AR.DI.NI.A.2008, an exercise held in Sardinia and attended by teams of firefighters from the five partner countries.
