Following a request for firefighting support from the Portuguese authorities to the Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) in Brussels, the Italian government has arranged the deployment of two Canadair firefighting aircraft to assist in combating the extensive wildfires affecting parts of the country.

The aircraft departed from Ciampino Airport and will be stationed in Beja, where they will assist in controlling the fires threatening the Vouzela area. To support the crews, which include pilots and technicians, officials from the Italian Civil Protection Department and the National Fire and Rescue Service will also be present on site to maintain coordination with local authorities. The two firefighting aircraft have been activated as rescEU-IT resources under the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM).
