Ciciliano in Brussels for PreparEU Strategic Meeting

The PreparEU Advisory Group—a select group of high-level European experts tasked with shaping EU-wide preparedness strategies to address emerging risks and threats—will hold its first meeting tomorrow. Among its members is Fabio Ciciliano, Head of the Italian Civil Protection Department, who will contribute his expertise and insights drawn from the Italian National Civil Protection Service and from Italy’s unique and complex risk landscape, given the country’s high exposure to both natural and human-made hazards.

The Advisory Group’s inaugural meeting will take place as part of the European Civil Protection Forum, an international event dedicated to sharing expertise and exchanging best practices. This year’s edition, which will also celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism, will see Italy contribute through a series of presentations and panel discussions, covering topics ranging from the emergency response to the 2010 earthquake in Haiti to innovative early warning technologies.

The Department will also showcase its activities at a dedicated information booth, focusing on the emergency triggered by Cyclone Harry, which severely affected southern Italy earlier this year, and the landslide in Niscemi. In addition, the Department will present the card game “Make Your Choice,” available in both print and digital formats, as part of the Forum’s dedicated spaces exploring gamification as a means of engaging the public and fostering a culture of civil protection.
