MiaVita. Handbook for Volcanic Risk Management

Copertina MiaVita Handbook for Volcanic Risk Management

The handbook is part of the European project Mia-Vita Mitigate and assess risk from volcanic impact on terrain and human activities. The project is financed by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme (2007-2013) for volcanic risk mitigation and management in developing countries.
The publication is the result of a collaboration that 15 European and international boards – research institutes, institutions and civil protection boards - carried out between 2008 and 2012 on active volcanoes in Cameroon, Indonesia, Philippines and Cape Verde. The Department supervised the creation of the Mia-Vita handbook with the contribution of its 49 authors.
The book responds to the need of providing a guide to those who, at various levels and in different contexts, deal with volcanic risk, especially in developing countries, bringing in the experience gained so far. Written in English, the handbook uses a simple language and clear graphics to ease the search of topics. Themes deal with monitoring, prevention and mitigation of risk, and management of a volcanic crisis.
Thanks to its heterogeneity, the book aims at improving the interaction of involved subjects during volcanic risk management, especially between scientific community and civil protection.
