Turin International Book Fair 2025

Salone del libro 2025

The Civil Protection Department will participate in the Turin International Book Fair for the third consecutive year, scheduled to take place from May 15 to 19 at Lingotto Fiere. The theme chosen for the XXXVII edition of the Fair is "Words fall lightly," an invitation to reflect on the power of storytelling and reading as tools for building relationships, preserving memories, and understanding the present.

The Department's booth will be located in Pavilion 3 – Stand S22, featuring an exhibition space and a talk space.

In the exhibition area, visitors can explore the history and evolution of the Italian civil protection system. This will be highlighted through a selection of publications and a timeline showcasing the major emergencies that have impacted the country over the past century. Additionally, a dedicated space for the comic strip "The Decisive Moment" will raise students' awareness of natural and human-made hazards.

The talk space will host discussions featuring screenwriters, journalists, science experts, and photographers, aiming to foster dialogue on civil protection topics.

You can download the complete program here and find all the information about the talks listed below.

Salone del Libro Gagnor - 16 maggio

There is an invisible thread between storytelling and emergencies, as every story — whether in novels, movies, series, or comics — ultimately reflects a narrative of resilience. Together, we will unravel this thread with the help of the author of the comic strip series "The decisive moment,"  aiming at engaging readers, especially young people, in the important journey of understanding good civil protection practices.

Roberto Gagnor - Screenwriter, author of The decisive moment.

Salone del Libro Sarzanini 17 maggio

How are civil protection emergencies represented in today's media? Together with Fiorenza Sarzanini, we will explore how the language of information varies depending on the media used and the reader's or listener's experiences. This dialogue will focus on the role of journalism in storytelling during emergencies and the evolution of media narratives in an era where the public is becoming an increasingly active participant in communication.

Fiorenza Sarzanini - Journalist and vice-editor of Corriere della Sera.

Salone del Libro Camporesi -18 maggio

In "Sommersi Salvati," Silvia Camporesi invites us on a poignant visual journey through the areas impacted by the Emilia-Romagna flood of 2023. The work engages in a dialogue about the power of photography to narrate this emergency, emphasizing the vulnerability of the landscape and the confusion experienced by the affected communities. Through visual art, we gain a way to document, reflect on, and contribute to shaping collective memory.

Silvia Camporesi - Photographer and artist.

Salone del Libro Mercalli - 18 maggio

In his latest book, Luca Mercalli examines meteorology and the climate crisis we face. He engages in a dialogue about addressing increasingly extreme and sudden weather events, questioning their predictability. The discussion includes the adaptation strategies available today and non-structural prevention measures that can be implemented to reduce and mitigate risks, ultimately protecting our territories and communities.

Luca Mercalli - Climatologist and science writer, author of "A brief history of climate in Italy. From the last ice age to global warming."
