The Italian mission to the Republic of Armenia has been completed.

Italy shared its know-how and experience acquired during the epidemiological emergency of Covid – 19

Today, 17 July, the mission of the Italian health team in the Republic of Armenia to support local hospitals in the fight against the COVID-19 has been concluded. The mission was realised with the coordination of the Civil Protection Department within the framework of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism.

A group of experts, made up of 11 specialists from the Emergency medical team of the Piedmont Region (EMT2 certified by the World Health Organization) and professionals from Lombardy and Tuscany Regions, provided a rapid response to the request for international assistance made by the Armenian Government to the Directorate General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations of the European Commission (DG ECHO), due to the critical conditions of the country's health system.

The health team left on June 26th. The team, specialized in the treatment of patients affected by Covid - 19, has been working alongside local colleagues in the implementation of training programs for the use of pulmonary ultrasound in case of emergency, in the development of antibiotic therapy courses, particularly related to pulmonary pathology and therapeutic approaches, and in the evaluation and consulting activities of the local health authorities

All activities were carried out in coordination with the World Health Organization and the Embassy of Italy in Armenia.

The team of Italian experts worked in three different hospitals in the Armenian capital, converted into Covid - Hospital: the Surb Grigor Lusavanovih Medical Centre, the Scientific Center of Traumatology and Orthopaedy, the Surb Astvatsamayr Medical Center.

The Italian team provided the Armenian health system with the know-how and experience acquired during the Covid - 19 epidemiological emergency, showing great solidarity in the spirit of cooperation that characterizes the Union Civil Protection Mechanism's integrated approach.
