The Italian commitment to fight the COVID-19 emergency continues
Health teams in Azerbaijan, Serbia and Albania
From Monday, August 3, the Italian health team will support local health authorities and hospitals in the fight against the Covid-19 disease in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The mission, carried out with the coordination of the Civil Protection Department within the Union Mechanism of Civil Protection, can rely on a team of experts, involving medical and health care professionals, specialized in anaesthesia, resuscitation, emergency medicine, infectivology and experts in the treatment of patients affected by COVID - 19, from the regional health systems of Piedmont, Tuscany and Lazio.
For the next two weeks, the Italian team will provide local health authorities with the experience developed during the management of the disease, as happened during the mission to the Republic of Armenia which ended last July 17.
The Italian commitment is part of a more extensive framework of the numerous requests for international assistance sent by foreign countries to the European Commission's Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO), to support the precarious conditions of health systems weakened by the current health emergency.
The Italian Government also welcomed the execution of two bilateral missions to send specialised personnel and health materials, that started on Sunday August 2nd for the Republic of Serbia and on Friday July 30th for the Republic of Albania, thus renewing the collaboration with the Western Balkans area in the fight against the Covid-19 disease.
