The “Terremoti d'Italia” exhibition in Avellino
The exhibition is open to the public from November 23 to December 14, with free admission

The “Terremoti d’Italia” exhibition arrives in Avellino to commemorate the devastating earthquake that struck Irpinia and the entire Campania region in 1980. Created by the Civil Protection Department with contributions from the Campania Region and under the patronage of the Municipality of Avellino, the exhibition offers an interactive journey into the world of seismic risk—exploring memory, knowledge, and the awareness of how each of us can contribute to building a safer future.
The exhibition will be open to the public for three weeks, from November 23 to December 14, 2025, in Piazza Macello in Avellino, and can be visited Monday through Friday from 4 PM to 7:30 PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM to 1:30 PM and from 4 PM to 7:30 PM. Admission is free, but reservations are recommended. The exhibition will be closed on December 1 and 8.
Special visiting hours are available for school groups: Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 1:30 PM, by phone reservation at the toll-free numbers: 800232525 - 800449911.
The exhibition tour, guided by volunteers from the association Lares Italia, begins with an introduction to the physical phenomenon of earthquakes and the instruments used to measure their energy. It then moves on to explore the history and seismic risk of our country, addressing topics such as the vulnerability of cities and buildings, the measures that can make homes safer, and the behaviors to adopt before, during, and after hazardous situations. At the end of the tour, visitors can experience the “seismic room,” a simulator that reproduces earthquake tremors, allowing them to safely feel an earthquake and observe its effects firsthand.
The communication campaign Io non rischio — I don’t take risks, which promotes good civil protection practices, is also an integral part of the exhibition. Civil protection volunteers from Campania serve as facilitators, meeting visitors and discussing the natural hazards to which the local area is exposed.
