IT-alert: new test in Lombardy simulating a large dam collapse

On October 1, 2025, the test will involve the Reggea dam (CO)

IT-alert

On October 1, 2025, a test of the national public warning system will be conducted involving the Reggea dam, located in the municipality of Garzeno (CO). This test will impact the three municipalities in the Como area that could be affected by a flood wave resulting from a potential dam collapse: Garzeno, Gravedona ed Uniti, and Dongo.

The message will be sent at approximately 10:00 AM to all active phone cells in the targeted area. Additionally, on the same day, the IT-alert official website will provide a link to a survey. Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to complete this survey, even if they do not receive any notification.

The test message will read as follows:

TEST TEST This is an IT-alert TEST MESSAGE. There is an ongoing SIMULATION of a dam collapse in the area where you are. To learn what message you will receive in case of real danger and to fill out the survey, go to www.it-alert.gov.it/en TEST TEST

Testing the system regularly is crucial to ensure that cell towers in the affected area will provide the necessary coverage during a real emergency. Additionally, it helps confirm the effectiveness of the communication procedures outlined in the Dam Emergency Plan (DEP).

The test date may be subject to change if regional civil protection systems are activated due to weather alerts or other emergencies.
