I don't take risks 2020 opens the National Civil Protection Week
Borrelli: "This is a great opportunity for a Campaign which continues to become more and more consolidated and that represents a great opportunity for our volunteers"
"The tenth edition of the I don't Take Risks National Campaign opens the National Civil Protection Week. Seven days dedicated to the voluntary work, the scientific community and the enterprises too". With these words the Head of the Department, Mr. Angelo Borrelli, today opened I Don't Take Risks 2020, the National Communication Campaign on good civil protection practices.
The day began with a visit to the squares in the Municipality of Canelli (At), where the Head of the Department met the civil protection volunteers who explained the seismic and tsunami risks to their fellow citizens.
These months have seen us engaged in the fight against the Coronavirus, underlined Mr. Borrelli, "a fight that has not ended yet, and we must keep our attention high. For this reason, the I don't Take Risks and the National Civil Protection Week underwent some changes, becoming resilient".
"I don't take risks", since the very beginning took place in the squares of Italian cities where civil protection volunteers have always met citizens with the aim of spreading knowledge of risks and good civil protection practices, making the Campaign a moment of aggregation and closeness. Volunteers, after a specific training course, had the task of explaining the contents of the Campaign, through dialogue, with dedicated tools, totems, time line, flood curtain, and the delivery of paper information materials.
Due to the Covid-19 emergency, this year aggregation and close interaction between volunteers and citizens is not possible. The physical distance required to contain the infection moved the I don't Take risks campaign to digital squares. The Head of the Department, Angelo Borrelli stated that "tThis is a great opportunity for a Campaign which continues to become more and more consolidated and that represents a great opportunity for our volunteers who in recent months have been trained to communicate good practices through the digital platforms".
I don't take risks 2020 saw the participation of 373 Italian municipalities, 588 volunteer organisations and 455 digital events, mainly on Facebook, where the classic communication materials of the campaign were used, transformed into digital versions. Through photos, videos with testimonials and stories on themes related to natural risks, a bridge between virtual and real was built to keep the original spirit of the campaign alive in the square.
The digital squares were organised, with free and widely used tools in this historical period linked to the Coronavirus emergency, such as Zoom or Google Meet: virtual meetings, advertised on the dedicated Facebook event pages, during which all the citizens willing to inform themselves and share their experiences about the risks on their territories and the good practices to adopt . A digital version of the dialogue between communicators and citizens.
The day ended with a visit to the square in Soverato (Cz) where, on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the flood, Mr. Borrelli met volunteers and citizens.
