"Humanities and social sciences for the civil protection system" conference: the second round on October 21 and 22
Four days of discussion and exchange featuring the presentation of 99 research and study papers
The second round of the "Humanities and Social Sciences for the Civil Protection System" conference is set to take place in Rome at the headquarters of the Civil Protection Department on October 21 and 22. Like the previous event on September 23 and 24, professors, researchers, and humanities and social sciences experts will convene to discuss new strategies and holistic approaches to risk management and reduction.
The humanities and social sciences can offer valuable insights into individual and collective behavior during crises. They can help promote community resilience and build more effective and fair civil protection systems. The conference hosted by the Civil Protection Department, in collaboration with the CIMA Research Foundation, aims to move beyond a purely technical approach to civil protection and incorporate a broader perspective considering risk's social, cultural, and psychological aspects.
The initiative aims to create a space for discussion and exchange where the humanities and social sciences can significantly contribute to civil protection. During the four days, 99 research and study papers, the result of the work of 280 authors, will be presented and discussed. These papers are divided into three major themes: "Responsibility and care," "Meeting the other," and "Acceptable risk and perceived risk." A wide range of topics and key issues will be addressed, including inclusive governance, community participation, risk communication, and psychological impact.
On-site participation is limited to speakers only. However, to enable a broader audience to follow the discussions, the event will be live-streamed on the Department's YouTube channel, which is also accessible from the website.
In addition to the paper schedule, the book of abstracts of all submitted studies is already available.
