Coronavirus: Civil Protection Operational Committee's activities

Technical and operational measures to reduce the risk of coronavirus transmission under consideration.

The Head of the Department, Mr. Angelo Borrelli, chaired today's meeting of the Civil Protection Operational Committee for the health risk linked to the spread of the coronavirus.

During the meeting, in the presence of the top management of the Ministry of Health, all the components and operational structures of the National Civil Protection Service, local authorities and representatives of Enac and the main airport hub management companies in the country, all the operational scenarios related to the current level of spread of the virus have been assessed and the measures to adopt in the short term have been prepared, particularly with regard to air and sea traffic.

Such measures include the increase in health checks in ports as well, with the extension of a procedure hitherto envisaged only for non-EU ships, the "free health practice", to all merchant and cruise ships in transit, and the use of thermoscanners in airports, to monitor the health conditions of passengers on flights coming from China through intermediate stopovers.
The Operational Committee will convene again tomorrow morning, and the Head of Department will continue throughout the day to follow the operations for the repatriation of our fellow citizens from Wuhan.
