Concordia: search for the last missing person started
Activities on board will start by verifying deck no. 4, and will carry on on the lower decks
Search activities for the last missing person, Russel Rebello, will start today on board of the Concordia wreck. The Maritime Director of Liguria and Commander of the Port of Genoa, Admiral Vincenzo Melone, will coordinate the operations. The Admiral was officially entrusted with the task last 28 July by the Deputy Commissioner of the emergency management, Franco Gabrielli.
The green light for the search at the Port of Genoa arrives after the negative results carried out on the seabed of the Giglio Island, during the days after the departure of the ship.
Teams composed by operators of the Provincial Fire Fighters of Genoa, of the Scuba Divers Operational Group of the La Spezia Navy and the Provincial Scuba Divers of the Genoa Carabinieri and the Guardia di Finanza of Genoa.
Activities on board will start by verifying deck no. 4, and will carry on on the lower decks. Maximum attention will be given to the safety of the operators who will be ensured with the necessary devices so that the activities will not interfere with the works going on in the building site.
As soon as the search will be over, the Consortium Saipem and Sangiorgio del Porto - now owner of the wreck - will commence the demolition works. During the disposal activities a constant control will be carried out by the Liguria Monitoring Observatory, that took office on 26 July, with the participation of the relevan institutions that ordinarily manage such activities.
