Representatives of the Italian Civil Protection Department attended the opening ceremony of the XIV Winter Paralympic Games on March 6 at the Verona Arena.
During the opening ceremony, titled Life in Motion, Department staff received the Paralympic flag from former athletes and raised it before the highest-ranking national officials in attendance at the Verona Arena. The flag displays the Paralympic symbol—three Agitos, from the Latin I move—in blue, red, and green, representing the body, mind, and spirit of athletes with disabilities. The ceremony celebrated life as a journey of change and transformation, reinterpreting the concept of disability through art, music, and movement.
“The Department's attendance at the opening ceremony is a valuable opportunity to highlight how Civil Protection Systems worldwide are committed to supporting people, acting as a bulwark of resilience, participation, and inclusion,” stressed Fabio Ciciliano, Head of Department. “The Paralympic Games remind us that accessibility and equal opportunities are shared responsibilities of the entire community.”
