The initiative, strongly supported by the Minister for Civil Protection and Sea Policies, was organized by the Civil Protection Department in collaboration with the Calabria Region. It addresses volunteers from the host region as well as Basilicata, Campania, Puglia, Sardegna, and Sicilia.
The gathering is being held in the industrial area of Lamezia Terme, at Fondazione Terina, where a camp is set up with modules suitable to accommodate up to 250 people.
On Saturday, October 19, there will be conferences and panels covering the following topics: the civil protection system - effectiveness and responsibility; the role of volunteers in preventing and managing major natural and man-made risks; responsibility profiles in emergency management within the civil protection system; and local experiences, with representatives from the southern regions.
On Sunday, October 20, training activities on logistics, civil protection planning, and an exercise involving drones for wildfire detection, spillages, and littering are scheduled.
The first two interregional meetings of civil protection volunteers took place in 2023. The meeting with the Northern Italian regions was held in Milan on September 29, and the meeting with the Central Italian regions was held in Foligno and Bastia Umbra on October 27.
