Assessment of Glacier and Permafrost Hazards in Mountain Regions: technical guidance document now online

The Italian version of the English publication GAPHAZ 2017: Assessment of Glacier and Permafrost Hazards in Mountain Regions - Technical Guidance Document is now available online.
The technical document summarizes scientific knowledge and best practices for assessing mountain areas' glacier and permafrost hazards. It focuses on hazards caused or triggered by the rapid changes occurring in glaciers and permafrost due to global climate warming.
The text is a resource available to responsible authorities and experts from national and international bodies. It is the result of collaboration between scientists from the Glacier and Permafrost Hazard in High Mountains (GAPHAZ) group of the International Association of Cryospheric Sciences (IACS) and the International Permafrost Association (IPA), supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) through the "Glaciares+" project.
The Italian translation was produced as part of the agreement between the Civil Protection Department and the Research Institute for Geo-Hydrological Protection of the Italian National Research Council, Center of Competence for Hydrogeological and Hydraulic Risks. The document serves as a tool to support hazard assessment and risk mitigation in glacial and permafrost environments in the Italian Alps, providing the civil protection system with additional support.
