Ukraine emergency: 43 Ukrainian patients transferred to Italy

The CROSS - Remote Centre for Health Rescue Operations - activated by the Department of Civil Protection for the coordination of urgent medical assistance to Ukrainian citizens continues to ensure the transfer of patients in countries bordering Ukraine.

Today, March 21, the Remote Centre for Health Rescue Operations coordinated the transfer of 13 patients through a flight of the Italian Guardia di Finanza. The patients will be assisted by the health services of the regions of Lombardy, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Liguria and Lazio. A further 30 patients have been transferred over the past few days, for a total of 43 people since the beginning of the emergency. The transfer has been carried out via MedEvac - Medical Evacuation.

The CROSS, within the framework of the European Civil Protection Mechanism and following a specific request of the Directorate General for Health and Food Safety of the European Commission (DG SANTE) will continue together with the regional health referents the recognition of available beds in the Regions and Autonomous Provinces and the organization of the transfer of patients.

The Department also activated the Disevac - Disability Evacuation - of the Italian Misericordie: a service that guarantees the secure and assisted evacuation of fragile, non-ambulatory people with wheelchairs and bedridden patients from the Polish-Ukrainian border to Italy.
