Earthquake: magnitude 5.7 in Marche region

Civil Protection on the ground to respond to critical situations. Update November 9 12:30 PM

After the earthquake recorded this morning at 7:07 AM, located off the coast of the Marche region, by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology with magnitude ML 5.7, the Sala Situazione Italia of the Civil Protection Department immediately started the necessary operational coordination with the territorial components and operational structures of the National Service of Civil Protection.

To better respond to the needs, the Marche Regional Operations Center, the Relief Coordination Center in Ancona and Pesaro and the Municipal Operations Centers in the towns affected by the earthquake have been activated by local authorities.

To conduct appropriate agibility checks, school buildings are closed and recognition activities are being carried out on the railway lines involved in the earthquake - the Adriatica between Rimini and Varano, the Ancona-Pesaro between Falconara and Jesi and the Rimini-Ravenna between Gatteo and Cesenatico. At 12 noon, rail traffic was reopened. The same checks started and ended on the road and highway network. The Marche region also activated Civil Protection volunteers to assist the population.

Initial inspections show minor damage in some localities, but teams from the National Fire Department continue inspection throughout the day. The Civil Protection Department will continue to monitor the situation together with the territory.
