Giornata in memoria di Giuseppe Zamberletti

A day of reflection in the wake of the legacy left by Giuseppe Zamberletti

The Civil Protection Department is hosting a day of reflection on Disaster Risk Reduction, focusing on European and international perspectives in light of the legacy left by Giuseppe Zamberletti. The event will be held Friday, January 24, starting at 9 a.m., at the Auditorium located at Via Vitorchiano 4, Rome.

The discussions will focus on commemorating the founder of the Italian Civil Protection, marking the sixth anniversary of his passing. His inspiring vision for the Italian approach to risk management will be highlighted, particularly in the context of challenges like climate change and new emergencies. These issues demand innovative solutions and renewed emphasis on preparedness and security to support sustainable development.

The event will feature several notable speakers, including Nello Musumeci - Minister for Civil Protection and Sea Policies; Alfredo Mantovano - Undersecretary of State; Fabio Ciciliano - Head of Department; Hadja Lahbib - European Commissioner for Preparedness, Crisis Management and Equality, and Kamal Kishore - Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Disaster Risk Reduction. Additionally, there will be panel discussions with institutional experts focusing on national and international experiences in risk reduction governance and current international challenges.

The event will also provide an opportunity for Commissioner Lahbib to present the final report of the Peer Review conducted in 2024 to the Italian government. This review focused on evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of Italy's wildfire risk management system. A dedicated workshop on this topic will take place in the afternoon.
