Coronavirus: Today meeting at the Department on cross-border flow management

Today’s meeting on the Coronavirus emergency took place at the Civil Protection Department Headquarters attended by Italy’s Prime Minister Conte, the Ministers Speranza and Di Maio, the Civil Protection Chief Borrelli. Also, the Governors Fontana, Fedriga, Cirio, Zaia, Toti, a representative of the VdA and the President of the Province of Bolzano Kompatscher were present in video conference.
During the meeting, all critical issues concerning cross-border flows and the control of air, sea, land and rail borders were discussed, including the possibility of reintroducing border controls by way of derogation of the Schengen Agreement.
The discussion highlighted that although there is legal feasibility, there is no practical sustainability for the implementation of such a suspension.
In any case, such a measure would not guarantee any precautionary effectiveness.
