Volcanic eruption classification according to the Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI)
According to the Volcanic Explosivity Index - VEI - the volcanic eruption classification is the result of quantitative data (e.g. volume of products, magma fragmentation, eruption cloud height) The index is used to determine the energy of the explosive eruptions with a value that ranges from 0 to 8. Eruptions are divided in: Hawaian, Strombolian, Strombolian/Vulcanian, Vulcanian, Sub-Plinian, Plinian, Krakatoian, Ultra-Plinian.
