The Italian Situation Room

Within the Civil Protection Department, Sala Situazione Italia– the Italian Situation Room- acts as the national coordination hub, which collects, verifies and disseminates civil protection information. Its purpose is to detect emergencies and promptly alert the various components and operational units of the National Civil Protection Service engaged in emergency management.

It operates on a 24/7 basis throughout the entire year, involving both the Department of Civil Protection and the operational units of the National Civil Protection Service. It sustains constant coordination with regional and prefectural authorities, as well as with the communication structure operators – such as telecommunication companies, first–aid centres, highways, railways – with the aim of gathering and disseminating real-time updates on emergency conditions and ongoing operations at national and local scales.
