Vesuvius, the symbol of Campania region, represents one of the major risks in the urban area of Naples. Through the international exercise “Mesimex 2006” the Civil Protection Department has once again focused the attention on Vesuvius and its risks, and engaged all the components of the National System of Civil Protection in order to test, prepare and develop strategies in case of a recovery of the volcanic activity, with the collaboration of European scientists and experts available in case of emergency.
Many cultural events were carried out during the exercise: these exhibitions are presented in the catalogue and organized by Civil Protection Department, Ministry of Cultural Heritage & Activities, in collaboration with Campania Region, the Province and the Municipality of Naples.
The text is enriched by a series of pictures and pays homage to Campania Region, by proposing only a preview of arts, culture and science that made the area of Naples and Vesuvius famous worldwide. A section of the book is dedicated to the surveillance system used for the 24-hour monitoring.
