Civil protection exercise held in schools of Medio Campidano province
May 15, 2012In Sardinia, closing day of the education project “Multimedia School"
This year's "Multimedia School of civil protection" project - promoted by the Civil Protection Department - will end in the month of May. The project will be carried out through simulation exercises in schools of Abruzzo, Calabria, Marche and Sardinia regions.
The first scheduled event is held today, 15 May, in the Province of Medio Campidano.
For the exercise - that involves pupils and teachers of schools of Arbus, Barumini, Guspini, Pabillonis, Serrenti and Villanovafranca – a civil protection field will be set up in the area of the market of the industrial cooperative of Villacidro.
The project aims at showing pupils coordination activities through the setting-uo og a mobile operating room, where all components of the civil protection System are represented.
The day is also an occasion to deepen among students the auto-protection regulations that need to be undertaken in case of emergency and to discuss territorial safeguard.
Among the activities: first aid and assistance to the population, monitoring of a tent and a camp kitchen, extinguishment of a fire and search of "missing people" using canine units.
The "Multimedia School" project - this year at its fifth edition– was created with the objective of making schools more aware of various types of risks, by favouring behaviours respectful of the territory and knowledge of regulations in case of emergency.
A virtual educational path that leads young people to navigate in the "sea of risks" where various "islands" lie: volcanic, seismic, hydrogeological, fire, industrial, environmental risks, voluntary work and National Service. On "dry land" there are instead the Components of the System of civil protection. Pupils are accompanied along this scenario by vritual tutors. A one-day simulation exercise with the operating structures of the National Service will close the event.
