Emilia earthquake: most frequent questions raised during meetings with the population

We publish some answers to the most frequent questions raised during the meetings with the population for the initiative "Earthquake, let's talk about it," a series of events began on June 11 and sponsored by the Civil Protection Department, Region Emilia-Romagna and Ingv, that involves the communities of the territories affected by the earthquake to discuss directly with representatives of institutions and experts in seismic risk.
During the meetings characteristics of the physical phenomenon of the earthquake and its effects are analyzed in depth, along with the correct behaviour to adopt in situations of risk, and the initiatives undertaken to overcome the emergency. The questions and answers that we publish about the phenomenon of earthquakes in general, household safety, stability checks and rules of behaviour.
Each event will be organized upon request of the mayors of the involved municipalities. So far, 25 meetings have been held between the provinces of Bologna, Reggio Emilia, Modena, Ferrara and Mantova. The next meetings are scheduled for July 23 in Mirandola, Province of Modena, 24 July in Cento, in Ferrara Province, 25 July in Argelato in the Province of Bologna, 29 July in Nonantola, Province of Bologna, 31 July in Vigarano Mainarda in the Province of Ferrara.
The initiative is sponsored by the Civil Protection Department, the Emilia Romagna Region and the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, in collaboration with the Network of University Laboratories of Seismic Engineering, the Emilia Romagna Regional Health Service and voluntary organizations of civil protection in the area.
