Island of Giglio: Environmental Emergency Course

June 12, 2012

From June 10 to 14 over thirty experts are participating

Rischio ambientaleFrom 10 to 14 June, on the Island of Giglio an Environmental Emergency course hosted by the Department of Civil Protection with the participation of the Municipality of the island of Giglio is taking place. The event is organized in collaboration with the United Nations Program for Environment (UNEP) and the Field Coordination Support Office Section for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs of the United Nations (OCHA).

The course brings together more than 30 environmental disaster experts from around the world. The aim is to form a pool of specialists who, in the event of major disasters, are able to support local authorities in assessment, mitigation, and, if possible, prevention of possible consequences through the activation procedures and good practice methods.

The experts will be able to exploit their shared techniques with the Costa Concordia case study, which shows the civil protection system committed with all its components, to ensure the best response in relief and recovery activities of passengers and crew, and subsequent safety measures of the vessel and substances on board.
