The volunteer lost his life during rescue operations in Monterosso

bandiereToday, 21 November the President of the Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, has consigned the Gold Medal of civil honour to Sandro Usai's wife. The volunteer of civil protecton lost his life in Monterosso, while he was participating to rescue operations for the flooding of 25 October at Cinque Terre.

The Gold Medal of civil honour is bestowed to award acts of extraordinary courage and indicate their authours worthy of public honour.

The Head of the Civil Protection Department, Franco Gabrielli, took part to the ceremony at the Quirinal Palace.
With his presence, the Head of Department renewed his appraisal and admiration for those who offer their commitment in voluntary work actvities, contributing to guard the territory and, above all, human lives also putting at risk their own.
