Montaguto landslide: the army ends its job to control the landslide
May 3, 2011490 men and over 90 means used in 12 months of operations
The work of the 11th Engineers Regiment Guastatori Montaguto committed to the containment of the landslide is now concluded. From April 2010 the Civil Protection Department has been coordinating the operations on site, along with local boarde, National Railways, Anas and the army.
The activities carried out by soldiers of the 11th Regiment have covered the monitoring and drainage of the landslide, the eviction of the roadbed and rail, light areas of monitoring and yard. The group also gave its support and technical specialist staff in the Department of Civil Protection.
In 12 months of intense activity, the 11th Regiment deployed a total of 490 men and more than 90 means of Genio.
Thanks to the contribution of the army the railway line Bari-Foggia-Rome-Benevento was re-opened on June 7, 2010 and the SS90 of Puglia was re-opened on July 10, 2010.
This afternoon, May 3, a ceremony in which the Civil Protection Department has awarded a crest at the 11th Regiment as a token of thanks was held in Montaguto.
The ceremony, opened from the area where the emergency started and used as a base for interventions for the safety of the landslide, ended in the town square.
