Wood fires: two Italian Canadairs sent in Albania
August 30, 2011The fire-fighting fleet intervention is part of the European Mechanism
Two Canadairs of the National air fleet are currently working in Albania to support extinguishing operations of the fires that are extensively affecting the country. The air fleet means took off from Brindisi airport during the early afternoon and operated in the Prefecture of Mati, in the area close to Suc.
Due to bad weather conditions, the fire is still rather large, with many fire fronts. The Civil Protection Department - that coordinates the air fleet through Coau-Joint Air Operating Centre - decided to further support the extinguishing operations. A new Canadair mission is scheduled for today.
The Italian fire-fighting fleet intervention is part of the European Mechanism, following Albania's request.
