September 17, 2018

The high-level international event under the Italian Presidency will be hosted from 21 to 23 November at the Centro Congressi di Confindustria in Rome.

The countdown has begun for the 2018 European Forum on disaster risk reduction - the European Forum on Disaster Risk Reduction (EFDRR), the high-level international event under the Italian Presidency, which will be hosted from 21 to 23 November at the Centro Congressi di Confindustria in Rome.

The event, organized by the Department of Civil Protection in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Risk Reduction - UNISDR and the European Commission, promotes a space for discussion on the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR), the elaboration of coordinated programs at regional and local level for risk prevention and for strengthening the concept of resilience as an actual development goal, at international level.

With the involvement of European representatives from institutions, non-governmental organizations and private companies, the EFDRR 2018 inaugurates the works during the month of November, in line with the objectives of the United Nations Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, held in Cancun, Mexico, from 22 to 26 May 2017, and with the results obtained during last year's Istanbul European Forum, to accelerate regional implementation and monitoring of the Sendai Agreement 2015 - 2030.

With the voluntary commitment of almost 200 countries, the Sendai framework offers the opportunity for public-private partnerships in research and innovation, the development of legislative instruments and quality standards, campaigns on raising awareness and infrastructure resilience , in a consistent way with the Sustainable Development Goals and with the Paris Agreements on climate change that set the shared goal of limiting global warming.
