Emilia Earthquake: updates on the emergency management

Today, 27 July, the last reception area in Moglia, province of Mantova, has been dismantled. Tonight a ceremony will be held to thank the organizations involves in the emergency management.

Similar operations are going on also in Emilia-Romagna, according to procedures for dismantlement of reception areas and structures that Dicomac sent on 13 July to the Provincial Coordination Centres. As of today there still are 28 reception areas, housing about 5,800 people. The majority of them (5,200 people) is housed in 24 camps in the province of Modena. Including the ones hosted indoors and in hotels, the total figure of people housed in Emilia is 8,200.

Damage assessments are going on. So far, 35,000 structures have been checked in Emilia-Romagna with Aedes card; another 1,000 need to be checked. The 36.1% of buildings is fit for use, the 22.5% is temporarily or partially unfit for use, the 35.7% unfit for use and the  5.7% unfit for external risk, i.e. due to unsafe external elements that might collapse and hit the building. Visual checks - in Emilia 56,800 - carried out by the National Fire Department are ending too.

Circular newsletter to reimburse the volunteers. On 25 July the Head of Department signed a circular newsletter that outlines dispositions to facilitate and speed up the management of reimbursement requests for voluntary organizations that took part to the Emilian emergency. The letter, published in the "Legal measures" section on our website, has been sent to civil protection Directions of Regions and Autonomous Provinces, to the National Council of voluntary work, organizations of voluntary work that activated national mobile columns, to the Italian Red Cross and to the National Corps of Alpine and Cave Rescue.

Report of emergency expenses. A note has been published to provide operating indications on the reimbursement procedures of expenses incurred following the seimic events of 20 and 29 May, regarding either the interventions carried out 72 hours after the events - which did not require any pre-emptive authorization -, and the expenses incurred after the first 72 hours, that will be reimbursed if authorized. The circular letter, signed by the Head of Department on 23 July, is addressed to directors of civil protection structures of the three regions involved in the emergency.

EU Solidarity Fund. Today, the Civil Protection Department trasmitted to Brussels the file regarding the activation request od the EU Solidarity Fund for the emergency caused by the seismic events in Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy and Veneto. The dossier, created in collaboration with the affected Regions, shows a damage amount of over 13.2 billion Euros in the areas.
