June 28, 2012

30 June sees the start of the Department's training project, in collaboration with Voluntary Organisations and Regions

Approximately 100 school camps taking part in the training project "School camps - I am the Civil Protection too" will take place from late June to late August in various locations in Italy and will welcome youngsters between the ages of 10 and 15 who will be confronted with the various fields of the civil protection: Fire Department, State Forestry, Police, 118, Italian Red Cross, representatives of municipalities and regions.

The camps are organised by the Department of Civil Protection in cooperation with the National Voluntary Organisations, with the Regions and local voluntary associations, that will manage the activities in each specialised field.

The purpose of this project is to stimulate a sense of responsibility and active citizenship of youngsters through sharing best practice techniques of civil protection. In 2011 nearly 3000 kids have joined the initiative.

101 camps have been organized on the entire national territory, distributed as follows: 60 in Calabria, Campania, Molise, Puglia, Sardinia and Sicily; 27 in Abruzzo, Lazio, Marche, Tuscany and Umbria; 14 in Emilia Romagna, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Liguria, Lombardy, Piedmont and Veneto.
