Stromboli: the volcano monitoring goes on

Yesterday 10 July at 5.21 p.m. a major explosion occured on Stromboli. the Department's Competence Centres, dealing with the volcano monitoring, today, 11 July, registerd a substantial reduction of monitored parameters.
The larger explosion, from the south-west crater, generated the fall of incandescent volcanic material mailny inside and outisde the crater area, and, partially, along the borders of the volcano.
The Advanced Operating Centre of Stromboli immediately verified the presence of small fires in the vegetation, at “Sopra l’acqua” on the south side of the volcano, triggered by the fall of volcanic elements, extinguished after a few hours, without the intervention of fire-fighting men or means.
The Central Functional Centre-Volcanic Risk continues the vigilance activity through the Ingv sections, University of Florence, Coa- Advanced Operating Centre and the volcano guides, who, after yesterday's event, suspended the ongoing excursions. The Alpine Rescue of Guardia di Finanza-Sagf also carried out an inspection in the higher area to trace the volcanic emissions distribution.
Coa is constantly in contact with the Carabinieri station of Stromboli, with the Port Authority, with Alpine Rescue of Guardia di Finanza, and National Forest Corps of Sicily Region.
