What does it mean for science to predict a calamitous event? Which tools are at disposal of the civil protection system in order to prevent risks? Who guarantees the right to information? These are just some of the themes of the day of study “Civil Protection and responsibilities in the society of risk: who evaluates, who decides, who judges” that is held on 4 October in the National Central Library of Rome.
Scientists, technicians, administrators, professors, judges, informatin and communication experts will participate in the meeting - an occasion for different professional to discuss.
The day of study is divided into two working sessions from 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.. Between the two sessions, at 1 p.m. the exhibition "Italy's earthquakes" will open. It is organized by the Civil Protection Department and will be open until 14 October.
Stories, documents, videos, tools tell what the seismic risk in Italy represent and supply indications on how to behave to reduce effects; the "seismic platform", a one of a kind tool able to simultare an earthquake shock, showing what can happen in a structure non seismically adequate compared to one equipped with seismic devices.
The National Central Library proved fundamental for the organization of the exhibition and of the meeting, thanks to its exhibition spaces and its precious experience.
