The European Civil Protection Forum
“Towards a more resilient society” is the title of the third European Civil Protection Forum, which addressed the construction of a European strategy for governance of natural or manmade disasters.
Held in Brussels on 25 and 26 November, the Forum will see participation by the Head of the Civil Protection Department, Guido Bertolaso, and the General Director of the Volunteer, Institutional and International Relations Office, Mr. Agostino Miozzo. In addition to Italian representatives, over 500 delegates and speakers will be taking part from the world of politics, universities, civil protection and international organisations.
The objectives of the European Civil Protection Forum 2009 are:
• to strengthen Europe’s capacities for emergency management, concentrating on the emergency forecasting and prevention stage;
• to develop a network connecting all the parties working in the field of civil protection, including the private sector;
• to increase the awareness of currently available new technologies for prevention, forecasting and response;
• to spread public awareness because participation by citizens is a fundamental passage in the risk prevention stage.
The Forum is divided into three debates, where the participants can put their questions directly to Ministers, General Directors and researchers and six seminars that will analyse practices for emergency prevention, forecasting and response.
