Introduction
The dossier frames the phenomenon of tsunamis in the Mediterranean and in Italy, starting with the comparison with the tsunamis that occur in an ocean.
A page is dedicated to the events that, throughout history, have struck the Mediterranean and Italy; from the same page users can click on an in-depth section regarding the 2002 Stromboli earthquake.
The third page is dedicated to the monitoring and alert system active on the national territory; the fourth page anticipates possibile developments of the system, including Italy's participation - in particular the Civil Protection Department's - to the NEAMTWS- North Eastern Atlantic & Med Tsunami Warning System project, for the creation of an alert system of North-East Atlantic, Mediterranean and surrounding seas.
Although concerning a specific area, the model of the system is the one already operating in the Pacific, Carribean and Indian Ocean area, to which the last page of the dossier is dedicated.
To test our users' knowledge on the theme, our new test "Tsunami risk and prevention. Are you in the field, on the sidelines or on the stands?” is now available.
