Towards a culture of Civil Protection

Towards a culture of Civil Protection

The enhancement of civil rights, and particularly the protection of life, are fundamental issues in our country’s social system: and the culture of civil protection is a natural expression of that.

Civil Protection is the sum of activities to safeguard life, the environment, towns and cities, but above all the synergic relationship between different entities, whose function is also that of spreading a culture of safety, solidarity, respect, active citizenship and responsibility.

Of all the entities involved in spreading these themes, schools are the most responsive and accessible. Conveying the message of solidarity, participation, sharing, respect and safety to young people represents an important cultural and social investment.
The goal of a community that is increasingly informed, involved in public life, sensitive to natural and social phenomena and changes, more aware of its active role, cannot but involve the world of school.

The administrations of tomorrow will be the product of a scholastic education system that is no longer closed and confined to rigid forms of static teaching, but open, dynamic and flexible to other social components.
Through this, future citizens will be used to team work, to respect for roles, and to sharing ideas programs, actions and goals.

The experience of the earthquake that hit the school of San Giuliano in Puglia in 2002, claiming the lives of 27 children and their teacher, has been particularly significant for our organisation. Since then, the Department has intensified its commitment together with the pertinent institutions for the safety of school buildings.

Within this framework are the activities of information and diffusion of the culture of civil protection, which, particularly over recent years, the Department of Civil Protection has promoted first and foremost, in accordance with its institutional mandate, among local and national organisations to increase community awareness of the themes of self-protection and protection of the territory.
