The Office develops, proposes and carries out policies and methodologies for analysis:
- assessment and mitigation of seismic and volcanic risks;
- forecasting the impact of seismic and volcanic events on the territory;
- optimization of operations in emergency and post-emergency intervetions;
- prevention programs and for the classification and seismic regulation.
It integrates the activities of the core functionality of the central and peripheral Functional Centres, even through the instrumental monitoring of the area, conducted by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology and the other Knowledge Centres. It ensures coordination with the Knowledge Centres and other research organizations, handles relations with the scientific community, with professional associations, with the production system.
It provides the necessary technical support to the activities of the National Commission for the forecast and prevention of major risks. It also provides technical and scientific support in the activities and operations post-seismic and volcanic emergencies. It ensure the management of Coa - Advanced Operational Center of the Department on the island of Stromboli.
