Fund for civil protection

The Fund represents the remaining portion of the resources present on the budget that the Department uses to finance the institutional structure and functioning. For 2011 is earmarked for the € 103,667,840 for the Civil Protection.

The main item of expenditure is the task of extinguishing forest fires through the air fleet of state-owned Canadair of the Department and other aircrafts of the Armed Forces and the State Forestry Corps, made available to the Department .

Another very important item of expenditure shall consist of the forecasting and disaster prevention and monitoring of the national territory for natural hazards and man-made, through the network of Functional Centres. For these activities, the Department also makes use of the most important scientific institutions (National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Department of Earth Sciences, University of Florence, National Centre of Meteorology of the Air Force, Eucentre - European Centre for Training and Research in earthquake engineering, Reluis - Network for Earthquake Engineering university laboratories).

The Fund for civil protection, also,  partially covers the requirement that arises from the first emergency measures ordered by the civil protection order issued to address-emergency contexts.

The rest of the resources is used for the operation of the facility (staff costs and operating offices).
For the financial year 2011 cuts of more than 56% of resources are expected - compared to the year 2010 -  in line with public finance policies aimed at curbing government spending.
